Second sea lion dies in Port Fairy (Australia)

THE second sea lion in six weeks has died in Port Fairy. In the latest incident a two-metre-long male sea lion made its way to the seventh hole of the Port Fairy golf course yesterday where it later died.Officers from the Department of Sustainability and Environment were called to assess the situation and to devise a plan to return the mammal to the water but the aged sea lion's health deteriorated drastically during the day.Senior biodiversity planner with the DSE Philip Du Guesclin said the sea lion was missing a number of teeth and it had probably arrived in Port Fairy from a colony near Kangaroo Island.
