HongKong corals healthy

HK corals healthy: survey

Corals in Hong Kong are generally healthy, with 21 out of 33 sites surveyed
recording high coral coverage and high diversity and abundance of fish
fauna, according to results of the Hong Kong Reef Check 2006. The Coral
Garden at Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park is the site with the highest coral
coverage, at 73.13%.

The three-month survey, conducted from July to September, covered the best
coral growing sites in eastern Hong Kong waters from Ping Chau in the north
to the Ninepin Group in the south. Thirty-three sites were successfully
surveyed, nine within marine parks. The exercise mobilised 33 diving teams
comprising more than 330 volunteers.
