NZ resumes anti-whaling crusade

NZ resumes anti-whaling crusade

Dec 18, 2006

New Zealand will again attempt to stop Japan's whaling on Monday, by leading
another protest in the country.

Representatives from 27 countries approached the Japanese Foreign Ministry
in Tokyo on Friday to express disgust at the slaughtering of whales -
supposedly in the name of science.

Japan intends to kill up to 935 Antarctic minke whales and 10 fin whales
this summer.

Conservation Minister Chris Carter says the group will be approaching the
ministry again on Monday.

He believes the Japanese will eventually get the message that the rest of
the world wants to conserve whales.

Carter says he hopes that will get through before the Japanese whaling fleet
arrives in the Southern Ocean within the next week.
